2008 Grants Awarded

The Doctors Company Foundation has awarded the following grants:

December 2008—The California Medical Association (CMA) Foundation was awarded a grant for $11,000 to organize and produce a conference titled the “Diabetes Summit.” This meeting focused on improving patient self-management of diabetes as part of CMA’s project on Advancing Practice Excellence in Diabetes.

December 2008—The National Patient Safety Foundation was awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 to sponsor the second Lucian Leape Institute Roundtable finalizing a white paper on reforming medical education curricula to incorporate patient safety, patient care processes, and communication as integral components of medical education.

November 2008—Gerald B. Hickson, MD, was awarded the Vanguard Award for the Advancement of Patient Safety for his research on the importance of physician-patient communication and for founding the Center for the Patient and Professional Advocacy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As part of the Vanguard Award, a grant in the amount of $1,000 was issued to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

September 2008—The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation was awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000, payable at $5,000 per year, to establish The Doctors Company Foundation Ann S. Lofsky, MD, Research Award. The Foundation established this research award in memory of Dr. Ann Lofsky, a former board member of The Doctors Company.
